![]() ![]() In this dining review and overview, we’ll start with a few photos of Vulcania, cover its backstory and theme, and conclude with thoughts on the cuisine. Vulcania is a buffeteria-style restaurant in the Mysterious Island at Tokyo DisneySea serving Chinese food. ![]() ![]() One of the more under-the-radar instances of this is the absolutely brilliant Vulcania restaurant, which is named after the secret island port of origin for the Nautilus and Captain Nemo’s land-based hideaway… For good reason, as photos of the vibrant lagoon from the Skyway are beautiful and iconic.įortunately, the legacy of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea has been carried forward with new attractions and offerings. While it closed over 15 years ago (under arguably dubious motivations if you’ve read DisneyWar) and has since been replaced by New Fantasyland, it’s still beloved. Attractions and entire lands inspired by the science fiction author have since been built at Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Disneyland Paris, and Tokyo DisneySea.Ĭhief among these is the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride itself, an extinct Magic Kingdom attraction that is still mourned by longtime Walt Disney World fans. Walt Disney’s 1954 classic movie adaptation of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea kicked off Imagineering’s decades-long fascination with science fiction author Jules Verne. ![]()

7/5/2023 0 Comments Torrent by Lisa Tawn Bergren![]() There were a few times when I got a little tired of Gabi running straight for danger, but that's a common problem with any action book or else there's no action. Lots of action, history seamlessly mixed in, romance-a great blend. Will the Betarrinis truly be willing to risk it all? Or in facing death head-on, will they discover life as it was always meant to be lived? But remaining there means facing great risk as the battle for territory wages on and the Black Plague looms. They’ve returned with their mother to the present to save their father before his tragic death, and now the family travels back to the place that holds the girls’ hearts: medieval Italy. Normal-except for the fact that they time travel to fourteenth-century Italy, where they’ve lived in castles, become swept up in historic battles, and fallen in love with handsome knights willing to do anything to keep them alive. for an uncertain past? Gabriella and Evangelia Betarrini are just two normal American teenagers. ![]() 7/5/2023 0 Comments Jla vol 1 grant morrison![]() ![]() A trade paperback collection was subsequently published consisting of the four-issue mini-series and the tie-in issues that were necessary to follow the main plot. Hitman #1,000,000 was essentially a parody of the entire storyline. ![]() Thirty-four other series then being published by DC also put out a single issue numbered #1,000,000, which either showed its characters' involvement in the central plot or gave a glimpse of what its characters' descendants/successors would be doing in the 853rd century. The core of the event was a four-issue miniseries, in which the 20th-century Justice League of America and the 853rd-century Justice Legion Alpha cooperate to defeat a plot by the supervillain Vandal Savage (who, being practically immortal, exists in both centuries as well as all the ones in between) and future Superman nemesis Solaris the Living Sun. Now, Oxford is proud to announce The Oxford Sherlock Holmes, the complete works gathered together in nine handsomely bound, meticulously edited volumes. What will the next visitor or urgent message bring? Perhaps a request from a mysterious stranger to help prevent "A Scandal in Bohemia." Perhaps Watson will tell us the story, discretely leaving out certain names, of how he and Holmes had to step outside the law to protect a certain royal personage from a blackmailer in "The Case of Charles Augustus Milverton." Or, for a very unusual treat, perhaps Holmes himself, in quiet retirement in Sussex, will tell a tale in his own words as in "The Lion's Mane." In the more than a century since the publication of the first tale featuring Sherlock Holmes, A Study in Scarlet, Arthur Conan Doyle's characters and stories have inspired countless films, plays, pastiches, literary tributes, and tens of thousands of imitations. But the story takes place in 1989, in a vintage movie theater, so there are at least two or three layers of nostalgia going on here. The story opens with Anna shot and passing out, last recalling a pulpy fifties movie, Naked Kiss, featuring one of the Scream Queens, which is your light-hearted key to this issue: Fun sixties and seventies suspense stories. My personal favorites in the collection included one of the new stories, “Marble Lily,” along with “At Eventide” and “Pas de Deux.” Although this was my first foray into Koja’s work, it will definitely not be my last. Strong feelings of loss, fear, death and compromise haunt these characters and stories, and they stayed with me for a long time. ![]() If her stories had a color, to me it would be Cimmerian gray (with the occasional red accent). And she creates so much wicked atmosphere, to the point, that even though sometimes I didn’t completely follow what I was reading, it didn’t matter, I was still happy to be there. Koja controls the experience with every word. There is an urgent, restless, sometimes chaotic, energy to the writing that permeates every story, every sentence. Like a fine restaurant, she provides an experience that is unlike any this reviewer has encountered. ![]() ![]() In reading this collection, one thing becomes immediately clear: Koja is a master prose stylist.
